Natural Habitat
Found globally in close proximity to human sleeping areas, including mattresses, bed frames, furniture seams, and wall crevices.
Diet & Feeding
Obligate hematophages; they feed exclusively on the blood of warm-blooded animals, primarily humans.
Behavior Patterns
Nocturnal and elusive; they hide in dark crevices during the day and emerge at night to feed. They undergo hemimetabolous metamorphosis from egg to nymph to adult.
Risks & Benefits
Risks include itchy skin welts, allergic reactions, anxiety, and insomnia. They are not known to transmit diseases to humans but are considered a significant domestic pest and a public health nuisance.
