Sawtoothed Grain Beetle

Natural Habitat

Found in stored food products such as grains, cereals, nuts, dried fruits, flour, and pet food. Also common in pantries, warehouses, and grocery stores.

Diet & Feeding

Omnivorous pests of stored food products, feeding on a wide variety of dried foods, especially those that are processed or damaged. They cannot feed on intact, sound kernels or seeds.

Behavior Patterns

These beetles are highly mobile and can quickly infest new food sources. They can fly but rarely do so. Females lay eggs individually within food crevices. Larvae develop within the food material, and the entire life cycle can be completed in as little as 3-4 weeks under optimal conditions, leading to rapid population growth.

Risks & Benefits

Potential risks include contamination and spoilage of stored food products, leading to economic losses and potential health risks if infested food is consumed. They do not bite or sting humans and are not known to transmit diseases. No direct benefits to humans or ecosystems are typically associated with this pest.
