Natural Habitat
Found globally in lawns, gardens, and grassy areas; often migrates into buildings and homes through tiny cracks during spring and fall.
Diet & Feeding
Herbivorous; feeds on the sap of more than 200 different plant species, mainly turf grasses, clover, and common lawn weeds.
Behavior Patterns
Active in cooler weather and often aggregate in large numbers on sun-exposed walls. They do not fly or jump; they crawl slowly. They reproduce by parthenogenesis (females produce offspring without mating).
Risks & Benefits
They are harmless to humans and pets as they do not bite or transmit disease. They are primarily a nuisance; if crushed, they leave a red stain caused by their body pigments, which can ruin fabrics and carpets.
