Natural Habitat
Human dwellings, primarily residing in cracks and crevices of mattresses, box springs, bed frames, and furniture near sleeping areas.
Diet & Feeding
Hematophagous; they feed exclusively on the blood of warm-blooded mammals, preferring humans.
Behavior Patterns
Nocturnal and cryptic. They hide during the day in tight spaces. The image displays characteristic fecal spotting (digested blood excreted as dark, rusty, or black spots) on fabric, which is a definitive sign of infestation and indicates where the bugs are harboring.
Risks & Benefits
Risks include itchy bites, allergic skin reactions, skin infections from scratching, anxiety, and insomnia. They are difficult to exterminate and reproduce rapidly. They serve no known benefit to the ecosystem or humans.
