Natural Habitat

Found globally in human dwellings, typically nesting in mattress seams, bed frames, cracks, and crevices near sleeping areas.

Diet & Feeding

Obligate hematophages, feeding almost exclusively on human blood, though they may bite other mammals or birds.

Behavior Patterns

Nocturnal activity peaks just before dawn. They undergo incomplete metamorphosis (nymph to adult) and require a blood meal to molt at each stage. They are highly skilled at hitchhiking on clothes and luggage.

Risks & Benefits

Risks include itchy welts, allergic reactions, secondary skin infections from scratching, and psychological distress/insomnia. They are not known to transmit diseases to humans. There are no ecological benefits in human environments.
