Natural Habitat
Found on the underside of leaves of a wide variety of plants, including vegetables, fruits, and ornamentals in gardens and greenhouses.
Diet & Feeding
Plant sap; they use piercing-sucking mouthparts to feed on individual plant cells, leading to stippling or yellowing of leaves.
Behavior Patterns
They produce fine silk webbing to protect themselves and their eggs from predators. They reproduce rapidly in hot, dry conditions and can go through a life cycle in as little as 5 to 20 days.
Risks & Benefits
Significant agricultural and garden pest that can cause defoliation or death of a plant. They have no direct risk to humans but are detrimental to ecosystem plant health.
