Human Bed Bug

Natural Habitat

Human dwellings, primarily in mattresses, bed frames, cracks, and crevices near sleeping areas.

Diet & Feeding

Obligate hematophages (blood-feeders), primarily feeding on human blood, though they may feed on other warm-blooded animals if humans are unavailable.

Behavior Patterns

Nocturnal and elusive; they hide during the day and emerge at night to feed. They undergo incomplete metamorphosis (egg, nymphal stages, adult) and require a blood meal to molt into the next stage.

Risks & Benefits

Risks include itchy skin rashes, psychological distress, and potential allergic reactions to bites. They are not known to transmit diseases to humans. There are no ecological benefits in a domestic human environment; they are considered household pests.
