Natural Habitat
Human dwellings, specifically in cracks and crevices near sleeping areas such as mattresses, bed frames, and headboards.
Diet & Feeding
Obligate hematophages, meaning they feed exclusively on the blood of warm-blooded animals, primarily humans.
Behavior Patterns
Mainly nocturnal; they emerge at night to feed and hide during the day. They undergo hemimetabolous metamorphosis consisting of five nymphal stages, each requiring a blood meal to molt.
Risks & Benefits
Risks include itchy skin welts, allergic reactions, and psychological distress. While they do not transmit diseases, infestations are difficult and costly to eradicate.
