Natural Habitat
Found indoors in dark, undisturbed areas such as closets, pantries, and storage bins where natural fibers are present.
Diet & Feeding
Larvae feed on keratin-containing materials including wool, fur, feathers, hair, felt, and sometimes dried plant materials or silk.
Behavior Patterns
The larva constructs a portable silken case incorporating debris and fibers. It lives inside this case, dragging it along as it feeds, and eventually pupates within it.
Risks & Benefits
No health risk to humans, but considered a significant domestic pest that can cause extensive damage to clothing, upholstery, rugs, and natural fiber collections.
