Behavior Patterns
They are gregarious insects that often congregate in large groups (sometimes called tree cattle). They exhibit hemimetabolous development (incomplete metamorphosis) and are often seen resting together under fine silk webs they spin for protection.
Risks & Benefits
They are harmless to humans and plants. They are beneficial to the ecosystem because they act as cleaners, scavenging potentially harmful fungi and algae from the bark and foliage of trees and shrubs.
