Natural Habitat

Found in lawns, gardens, agricultural fields, and golf courses; common in North America and Japan.

Diet & Feeding

Adults feed on the leaves, flowers, and fruit of over 300 plant species, including roses, grapes, and maples. Larvae (grubs) eat the roots of grasses.

Behavior Patterns

Adults are active during the day and often congregate in large groups to feed (aggregate feeding). They have a life cycle of about one year, spending the winter underground as larvae.

Risks & Benefits

Significant agricultural and garden pest. Adult feeding skeletonizes leaves, while larvae can destroy lawns and turf. No direct risks to humans but high economic impact on landscaping and farming.
