Larvae eat natural fibers (wool, silk, feathers), dead insects, and dried animal products. Adults feed on pollen and nectar.
Behavior Patterns
Adults are attracted to light and often found near windows. They undergo complete metamorphosis with the larval stage being the most destructive.
Risks & Benefits
Risks include damage to clothing, carpets, and upholstery. Some individuals may experience allergic skin reactions (dermatitis) to larval hairs. They provide no significant benefits to humans indoors.
