Behavior Patterns

Attracted to light and fermented odors. They have a very rapid life cycle, often going from egg to adult in about 8-10 days in warm conditions. They are most active during the day.

Risks & Benefits

They do not bite or sting but are considered household pests because they can contaminate food with bacteria and pathogens. In science, they are highly beneficial as a primary model organism for genetic research.
