Behavior Patterns
Larvae live in the gelatinous film layer of drains. They are highly resilient and can survive in low-oxygen environments. They undergo pupation within the same organic film before emerging as adult flies.
Risks & Benefits
Generally harmless to humans, though high populations indicate a sanitation issue or pipe blockage. Often considered beneficial decomposers in sewage treatment plants, but can be a nuisance pest in homes.
