Natural Habitat

Moist, organic-rich environments such as sewage drains, sink pipes, septic tanks, and wet compost.

Diet & Feeding

Decomposing organic matter, slime (biofilm), fungi, and bacteria found in drains.

Behavior Patterns

Larvae live in the gelatinous film layer of drains. They are highly resilient and can survive in low-oxygen environments. They undergo pupation within the same organic film before emerging as adult flies.

Risks & Benefits

Generally harmless to humans, though high populations indicate a sanitation issue or pipe blockage. Often considered beneficial decomposers in sewage treatment plants, but can be a nuisance pest in homes.
