Grapevine Beetle
Scientific Name: Pelidnota punctata
Order & Family: Coleoptera, Scarabaeidae
Size: 25 to 30 mm (approx. 1 inch)

Natural Habitat
Found in forests, woodlands, and gardens throughout North America, especially near vineyards or wild grape vines.
Diet & Feeding
Adults feed on the leaves and fruit of grapes and other wild vines; larvae (grubs) eat decaying wood and logs.
Behavior Patterns
Adults are active during the summer and are commonly attracted to porch lights at night. They fly with a loud buzzing sound and have a relatively slow, clumsy flight path.
Risks & Benefits
They are generally harmless to humans as they do not bite or sting. While they can be a minor nuisance in vineyards, they rarely cause significant economic damage and contribute to the ecosystem by aiding in the decomposition of wood as larvae.
