Natural Habitat

Diet & Feeding
As larvae, they are internal parasites that feed on the fluids and tissues of their host mammal. Adults do not eat.
Behavior Patterns
Larvae develop in a subcutaneous cyst on a host. After reaching maturity, they drop to the soil to pupate. Adults are rarely seen and live only to mate.
Risks & Benefits
They are parasites that can cause discomfort or secondary infections in hosts. Human infestation (myiasis) is rare but possible through accidental contact with eggs.
