Natural Habitat
Typically found in human dwellings, specifically in cracks and crevices near sleeping areas, mattresses, box springs, bed frames, and behind headboards.
Diet & Feeding
Hematophagous (feeds exclusively on blood, primarily human blood).
Behavior Patterns
Bed bugs go through five nymphal stages (instars) before adulthood, molting (shedding their skin) at each stage. The image depicts one of these shed skins (exuviae), which are left behind after molting. They are nocturnal and hide during the day.
Risks & Benefits
Risks: Bed bug bites can cause itching, allergic reactions, insomnia, and anxiety. While they are not known to transmit disease effectively, infestations are difficult and costly to eradicate. Benefits: None known.
