Natural Habitat

Moist terrestrial environments such as gardens, greenhouses, and leaf litter; native to Southeast Asia, now invasive worldwide.

Diet & Feeding

Carnivorous predator of earthworms, slugs, insect larvae, and other soil invertebrates.

Behavior Patterns

Nocturnal and moisture-dependent; hunts by following slime trails and uses neurotoxins to immobilize prey. Reproduces both sexually and via fragmentation.

Risks & Benefits

Invasive species that harms ecosystems by depleting earthworm populations. They produce tetrodotoxin (a neurotoxin) and should not be handled with bare hands; may cause skin irritation.
