Feed on microscopic fungi (mold and mildew), grain dust, starch, and book glue.

Flightless and light-avoiding insects that move in a characteristic jerky motion; their presence usually indicates high humidity levels.

Harmless to humans and pets as they do not bite or transmit disease, but can be a nuisance and may contaminate stored food items or damage old books with high moisture content.
