Obligate hematophagous, meaning they feed exclusively on the blood of warm-blooded animals, primarily humans

Nocturnal and elusive, staying hidden during the day and emerging at night to feed; they are attracted to the heat and carbon dioxide emitted by hosts

They do not transmit diseases, but their bites can cause allergic reactions, intense itching, and significant psychological distress
