Natural Habitat
Damp, dark environments such as mulch, leaf litter, under rocks, or inside wall voids of buildings.
Diet & Feeding
Omnivorous; feeds on a variety of organic matter including decaying plant material, smaller insects, foliage, blossoms, and fruits.
Behavior Patterns
Nocturnal scavengers that hide during the day. They exhibit maternal care, with females guarding eggs and young nymphs. Their pincers (cerci) are used for defense and mating.
Risks & Benefits
Generally harmless to humans; they can pinch if handled but are not venomous. They are considered minor garden pests due to foliage damage but provide ecosystem benefits by preying on aphids and other soft-bodied insect pests.
