Natural Habitat

Bed bugs primarily live in human dwellings, congregating in cracks and crevices near sleeping areas, such as mattress seams, box springs, bed frames, and headboards.

Diet & Feeding

Hematophagous (blood-feeders); they feed exclusively on the blood of mammals, preferring humans.

Behavior Patterns

Nocturnal feeders that hide during the day. They excrete digested blood as dark reddish-brown or black spots (fecal matter) onto surfaces like sheets and mattresses, which is what appears to be shown in the image.

Risks & Benefits

Risks: Bed bugs cause itchy bites that can lead to secondary skin infections, significant anxiety, and insomnia. They are not known to transmit diseases but are a major nuisance pest that is difficult and costly to eradicate.
