Bed Bug
Scientific Name: Cimex lectularius
Order & Family: Hemiptera (order), Cimicidae (family)
Size: Adults typically 4-5 mm (about 3/16 inch) long. Nymphs are smaller.

Natural Habitat
Dwellings, especially bedrooms (mattresses, bed frames, cracks in walls, furniture). Prefer dark, secluded areas close to their hosts.
Diet & Feeding
Exclusively feed on the blood of warm-blooded animals, primarily humans.
Behavior Patterns
Nocturnal; they emerge from their hiding spots at night to feed. They are attracted to carbon dioxide and body heat. They are skilled at hiding and can go for extended periods without feeding.
Risks & Benefits
Potential risks include itchy red welts from bites, allergic reactions in some individuals, and secondary skin infections from scratching. They are not known to transmit diseases to humans. There are no known benefits.
