Mango Leafhopper

Natural Habitat

Commonly found in mango orchards, gardens, and tropical forested areas throughout India, especially during the flowering season of host plants.

Diet & Feeding

Herbivorous; they use piercing-sucking mouthparts to feed on the sap of mango tree flowers, shoots, and leaves.

Behavior Patterns

Adults are active year-round but peak in late spring (April/May). They are wedge-shaped and quickly jump or fly away when disturbed. They are known to congregate on the undersides of leaves and tree trunks.

Risks & Benefits

They are a major agricultural pest in India that causes significant damage to mango crops by inducing floral drop and secreting honeydew, which leads to sooty mold growth. They pose no direct physical risk to humans.
