Behavior Patterns
Nymphs secrete a frothy, soap-like 'spittle' substance (produced from anal secretions and air) to insulate themselves from heat, prevent desiccation, and hide from predators. They undergo incomplete metamorphosis.
Risks & Benefits
Generally considered a minor garden pest; they can cause slight distortion or yellowing of leaves but rarely kill plants. They do not bite or sting humans and serve as a food source for various birds and spiders.
