Varied Carpet Beetle
Scientific Name: Anthrenus verbasci
Order & Family: Coleoptera: Dermestidae
Size: 2mm to 4mm in length

Natural Habitat
Indoor environments (carpets, closets, pantries) and outdoor areas on flowering plants.
Diet & Feeding
Larvae eat natural fibers (wool, silk, feathers), dry pet food, and dead insects; adults feed on pollen and nectar.
Behavior Patterns
Larvae avoid light and hide in dark crevices while feeding; adults are attracted to light and often found near windows trying to get outside to mate.
Risks & Benefits
Significant pests of household goods and museum collections; larval hairs can cause 'carpet beetle dermatitis' (allergic skin reactions) in humans. They benefit the ecosystem by breaking down organic debris outdoors.
