Natural Habitat

Typically found in tropical and subtropical climates living outdoors in soil, mulch, leaf litter, or under rocks and logs. Commonly found in greenhouses and potted plants.

Diet & Feeding

Scavenger that primarily eats decaying organic matter and plants; occasionally considered a minor garden pest for feeding on roots and seedlings.

Behavior Patterns

Burrowing insect that is primarily nocturnal. This species is unique for being parthenogenetic, meaning populations consist almost entirely of females that reproduce without males.

Risks & Benefits

They do not infest indoor living spaces like German cockroaches but can be a nuisance in greenhouses. They are beneficial as decomposers in the soil ecosystem.
