Case-bearing Clothes Moth (larva/case)

Natural Habitat

Found worldwide, mostly indoors in dark, quiet areas like closets, under furniture, or on carpets. They thrive in humid environments.

Diet & Feeding

Larvae feed on natural fibers (keratin) such as wool, fur, feathers, silk, hair, and lint. They may also consume synthetic fibers if they contain food stains or sweat.

Behavior Patterns

The larva builds a protective, portable case out of silk and debris (sand, fibers, etc.) which it drags around as it feeds. It can turn around inside the case to eat from either end. The larva will eventually pupate inside this case.

Risks & Benefits

Considered a household pest. They pose no direct health risk to humans (they do not bite or spread disease) but can cause significant damage to clothing, carpets, upholstery, and tapestries made of natural fibers.
