Bed Bug
Scientific Name: Cimex lectularius
Order & Family: Hemiptera: Cimicidae
Size: 1 to 7 millimeters (roughly the size of an apple seed when adult)

Natural Habitat
Found indoors, typically near sleeping areas. They hide in mattress seams, box springs, crevices in furniture, behind wallpaper, and in electrical outlets.
Diet & Feeding
Hematophagous (blood-feeders), feeding exclusively on the blood of warm-blooded animals, preferring humans.
Behavior Patterns
Nocturnal and elusive, they emerge at night to feed on sleeping hosts. They are attracted to body heat and carbon dioxide. They do not fly or jump but crawl quickly.
Risks & Benefits
Primary risk is nuisance biting which causes itchy, red welts, anxiety, and insomnia. While they are not known to transmit diseases directly to humans, heavy infestations can cause anemia and psychological distress.
