Clover Mite
Scientific Name: Bryobia praetiosa
Order & Family: Trombidiformes, Tetranychidae
Size: Approximately 0.75 mm - 0.85 mm (0.03 inches) in length.

Natural Habitat
Outdoors, they live in grass and clover. Indoors, they often invade homes, especially seeking shelter in cracks and crevices, window sills, and on walls, particularly in sunny areas.
Diet & Feeding
They feed on the sap of plants, primarily clovers, grasses, and other herbaceous plants. They are vegetarians.
Behavior Patterns
Clover mites are known for their mass migrations, particularly in spring and fall, when they seek new food sources or shelter. They are most active during cooler parts of the day and prefer sun-exposed areas. When crushed, they leave a red stain.
Risks & Benefits
Potential risks include being a nuisance pest when they invade homes in large numbers. While they do not bite humans, transmit diseases, or cause structural damage, their large presence and the red stains they leave when crushed can be bothersome. They pose no significant benefits to the ecosystem in general, but they are part of the food chain for other arthropods.
