Natural Habitat
Indoors, commonly found in homes and museums, feeding on a variety of organic materials. Outside, they can be found on flowering plants.
Diet & Feeding
Larvae feed on natural fibers (wool, silk, fur, feathers), dried food products, animal carcasses, and museums specimens. Adults primarily feed on pollen and nectar.
Behavior Patterns
Larvae are the damaging stage, often found in dark, undisturbed areas like closets, attics, and under furniture. Adults are attracted to light and often seen near windows. They undergo complete metamorphosis.
Risks & Benefits
Risks: Can cause significant damage to textiles, clothing, carpets, and stored food products. They do not bite or transmit diseases to humans. Benefits: In nature, they act as scavengers, helping to break down organic matter.
