Natural Habitat
Found in regions with Eucalyptus trees; native to Australia but introduced to California and other regions with Eucalyptus plantations.
Diet & Feeding
Strictly herbivorous; both larvae and adults feed on the foliage of various Eucalyptus species, often preferring new growth.
Behavior Patterns
They undergo complete metamorphosis (egg, larva, pupa, adult). They are known for their hemispherical shape and ability to cling tightly to leaves. Adults are most active during the warmer months.
Risks & Benefits
They are considered a significant pest in Eucalyptus plantations as they can cause extensive defoliation, which stunts tree growth or may kill young trees. They pose no direct risk to humans.
