Natural Habitat

Found in dry, sandy soils and dust, often in tropical and subtropical climates including parts of Latin America, the Caribbean, and sub-Saharan Africa.

Risks & Benefits

Causes tungiasis, resulting in severe inflammation, secondary bacterial infections, and potentially gangrene or tetanus if untreated. It provides no known ecological benefit to humans.
