Natural Habitat

Found worldwide, typically in kitchens, pantries, and warehouses where dry stored goods are kept.

Diet & Feeding

A wide variety of dried plant and animal products, including flours, dry mixes, bread, cookies, spices, dried floral arrangements, and even leather or books.

Behavior Patterns

Adults are active fliers and are attracted to light. They lay eggs in or near food sources. The larvae are small, white, and C-shaped, doing the majority of the damage by boring into food items.

Risks & Benefits

Primarily a nuisance pest that causes economic damage by contaminating and destroying stored food products. They do not bite or sting humans and do not carry diseases, but infested food should be discarded.
