Natural Habitat
Exclusively inhabits human body hair, most commonly in the pubic region, but occasionally on eyelashes, eyebrows, or chest hair.
Diet & Feeding
Obligate hematophagous; they feed exclusively on human blood several times a day.
Behavior Patterns
They are slow-moving and use their large, crab-like claws to cling to hair shafts. They cannot jump or fly and are usually transmitted via close physical contact or contaminated textiles like bedding.
Risks & Benefits
Causes intense itching (pruritus) and skin irritation (blue spots) due to hypersensitivity to their saliva. They are considered an ectoparasitic infestation (Pediculosis pubis) but do not transmit infectious diseases.
