Natural Habitat

Human dwellings, specifically in cracks and crevices near sleeping areas such as mattress seams, bed frames, and headboards.

Diet & Feeding

Obligate hematophages (blood feeders), primarily feeding on human blood during the night.

Behavior Patterns

Nocturnal and elusive; they undergo five nymphal stages, molting their exoskeleton after each blood meal, which leaves behind the translucent brown sheds similar to the image.

Risks & Benefits

While they do not transmit diseases, their bites cause itchy welts and can lead to secondary infections, psychological distress, and allergic reactions. They have no known ecosystem benefits in human environments.
