Natural Habitat

Indoor environments, particularly in closets, drawers, or storage areas where natural fibers are kept.

Diet & Feeding

Larvae feed on keratins found in natural fibers like wool, silk, fur, feathers, and hair.

Behavior Patterns

The larva builds a portable silken case incorporating fibers from its food source. It carries this case while feeding and eventually pupates inside it. Adults do not feed.

Risks & Benefits

Risk: Serious pest that can cause significant damage to clothing, upholstery, and carpets. Benefit: Breaks down animal-based organic matter in the wild.
