Found in agricultural fields, gardens, and forests; frequently seeks shelter indoors during cold months.

Primarily predatory, consuming aphids, scale insects, and other soft-bodied agricultural pests.

Active during the day; undergoes complete metamorphosis. Known for swarming on sunny walls in autumn to find overwintering sites inside buildings.

Benefits the ecosystem by controlling pests; however, they can be a nuisance indoors, may bite occasionally, and can secrete a yellow, staining defensive fluid with an unpleasant odor.
