Natural Habitat

Keratin-rich materials including wool, silk, fur, feathers, hair, and some synthetic blends containing organic matter.

Behavior Patterns

The larva builds a silk-lined protective case using debris and fibers from its food source, which it carries around as it feeds. It undergoes complete metamorphosis, eventually pupating inside the case.

Risks & Benefits

Risk: Serious domestic pest that causes permanent damage to clothing, upholstery, and carpets. Benefit: Provides no significant benefit to indoor human environments; in nature, they help break down animal remains.
