Diet & Feeding

Adult fungus gnats typically do not feed or feed on liquids. Larvae primarily feed on fungi, decaying organic matter, and plant roots.

Behavior Patterns

Adult fungus gnats are attracted to light but generally weak flyers; their larvae live in moist soil and feed on fungi and decaying organic matter. They are an indication of overwatering plants.

Risks & Benefits

Risks: Can be a nuisance indoors, and larvae can damage plant roots, especially in seedlings and young plants. They do not bite humans or transmit diseases. Benefits: In nature, they contribute to decomposition processes.
