Oriental Cockroach
Scientific Name: Blatta orientalis
Order & Family: Blattodea: Blattidae
Size: 25 to 32 mm (approx. 1 to 1.25 inches) in length.

Natural Habitat
Damp, dark, and cool areas such as basements, crawl spaces, sewers, floor drains, and mulch around foundations.
Diet & Feeding
Omnivorous scavengers that prefer decaying organic matter, starchy foods, and garbage.
Behavior Patterns
Primarily nocturnal insects that are relatively slow-moving compared to other cockroach species. They undergo incomplete metamorphosis (egg, nymph, adult) and are often called 'water bugs' due to their preference for moisture.
Risks & Benefits
Considered a major pest; they can carry pathogens such as E. coli and Salmonella on their bodies, contaminating food and surfaces. They also produce allergens that can trigger asthma. Ecologically, they act as decomposers, but provide no direct benefit to humans in a domestic setting.
