Booklouse

Natural Habitat

Found in warm, damp environments, often indoors on moldy paper, books, wallpaper, or in pantries (flour/grains). They thrive in high humidity.

Diet & Feeding

They feed on microscopic mold and fungi, as well as starchy materials like book binding glue, paper sizing, and stored grain products.

Behavior Patterns

They are flightless and move quickly with a jerky motion. They are often seen scurrying across surfaces rather than flying. They do not bite or sting.

Risks & Benefits

Generally harmless to humans (no biting/stinging). Considered a nuisance pest, especially in libraries or food storage, as they can contaminate grains and damage books or paper products if the infestation is large.
