Natural Habitat

Found worldwide in pantries, warehouses, and food processing facilities, specifically near oilseed products and cereals.

Diet & Feeding

Feeds on processed grains, seeds, dried fruits, rolled oats, nut meats, and bran; prefers foods with high oil content.

Behavior Patterns

Unlike their relative the saw-toothed grain beetle, these are capable of flight. They tend to hide in small crevices and can complete their life cycle in as little as 3-4 weeks in warm conditions.

Risks & Benefits

Considered a significant household and commercial pest. They do not bite or sting humans, but they contaminate stored food with excrement and larvae, rendering it unfit for consumption.
