Natural Habitat

Typically found inside residential buildings, often on walls or high-humidity areas like bathrooms and kitchens.

Diet & Feeding

Larvae feed on organic fibers including spider webs, wool, silk, and human hair, as well as dead insects.

Behavior Patterns

The larva builds a flattened, spindle-shaped protective silk case covered with sand, soil, or dust. It can emerge from either end of the case to feed or move. They undergo complete metamorphosis with the mobile case remaining until pupation.

Risks & Benefits

Generally harmless to humans but considered a nuisance household pest. They can occasionally cause minor damage to wool clothing or silk items if present in large numbers.
