Bed Bug (Nymph or Cast Skin)
Scientific Name: Cimex lectularius
Order & Family: Hemiptera / Cimicidae
Size: Nymphs range from 1mm to 4.5mm; adults are roughly 5-7mm.

Natural Habitat
Typically found in human dwellings, primarily in bedrooms, hiding in mattresses crevices, box springs, bed frames, and behind headboards.
Diet & Feeding
Hematophagous (feed exclusively on blood), preferring human blood but will feed on other warm-blooded animals.
Behavior Patterns
Nocturnal transients that hide in tight cracks during the day. They molt (shed their skin) five times before reaching adulthood, leaving behind translucent, yellowish exoskeletons like the one pictured.
Risks & Benefits
Risks: Their bites cause itching, welts, and allergic reactions; they can cause significant psychological distress and sleep loss. They are not known to transmit disease but are major pests.
