Natural Habitat
Indoor environments near human sleeping areas, residing in mattress seams, bed frames, cracks, and crevices.
Diet & Feeding
Strictly hematophagous (blood-feeders), primarily preferring human blood but will feed on other mammals or birds.
Behavior Patterns
Nocturnal and elusive. They are attracted to heat and carbon dioxide. They undergo incomplete metamorphosis (egg, nymph, adult) and crawl rapidly.
Risks & Benefits
Risks include itchy skin welts, psychological distress, and allergic reactions. They are not known to spread diseases to humans. There are no ecological benefits to humans.
