Natural Habitat

Dwellings, specifically in beds, mattresses, headboards, and cracks or crevices near sleeping areas.

Diet & Feeding

Obligate hematophages (blood-feeders), primarily feeding on human blood during the night.

Behavior Patterns

Nocturnal and elusive. They hide during the day and are attracted to the carbon dioxide and warmth produced by sleeping hosts. The brown spot in the image is characteristic of fecal spotting, which is digested blood excreted by the bug.

Risks & Benefits

Risks include itchy welts, allergic reactions, and secondary skin infections from scratching. They are not known to transmit diseases but cause significant psychological distress and are difficult to eradicate. There are no ecological benefits in human environments.
