Natural Habitat
Gardens, meadows, and woodland edges with plenty of flowering plants and decaying organic matter.
Diet & Feeding
Adults feed on pollen, nectar, and petals of flowers, especially roses and umbellifers. Larvae (grubs) eat decaying wood and plant matter.
Behavior Patterns
Active during sunny days; they are strong fliers that keep their wing cases (elytra) closed while flying. They undergo complete metamorphosis, spending several years as larvae in compost or rotting wood.
Risks & Benefits
Benefits the ecosystem as a pollinator and decomposition agent. Generally not a major pest, though they can occasionally damage garden flower petals.
