Varied Carpet Beetle

Commonly found in homes and museums, as well as outdoors in bird/mammal nests or on flowering plants.

Larvae feed on dry animal products such as wool, silk, hair, feathers, and dead insects; adults feed on pollen and nectar.

Adults are active during the day and attracted to light. Larvae avoid light and can live for several hundred days, molting frequently and leaving behind shed skins.

Major structural and textile pests that damage clothing, carpets, and upholstery. Some people may experience allergic reactions (dermatitis) to the larval hairs.
