Natural Habitat

Found indoors in dark, undisturbed areas such as closets, under furniture, in carpets, baseboards, and stored woolen boxes.

Diet & Feeding

The image shows the shed exuvia (skin) of the larva. Larvae molt multiple times before pupating. They avoid light and are scavengers. Adults are attracted to light and are often found near windows.

Risks & Benefits

Risks: The larvae are a significant textile pest, damaging clothing, rugs, and upholstery. Their bristly hairs can cause 'carpet beetle dermatitis' (itchy skin) in some people. Benefits: In nature, they act as decomposers of dried animal matter.
